My CraYZ Rant 6/27/06
even more things wrong in the world of video games

Ok. I'm an "older" gamer. And so is the core market for whom video games are targetted to. So I'm sure I'm not the only who that feels a little peeved when the young ones complain about the old school days.

Case in point. I'm in my local EB chatting with my crew there. For the most part nearly everyone in there was over 24, and all discussing how freakin sweet NEW Super Mario Bros is. (Which by the way expect my full review shortly.) And all the sudden, this lil kid that had to be about 13 or 14 had to chime in saying, "well of course everything thinks the NEW one is great cause only old people played the original." As much as I had to fight the urge to throw that Disc Doctor sitting on the counter at this kid, what got even more heated was the fact was this kid was wearing a "Know your Roots" t-shirt with the original NES controller on it.

And so the rant is... IF YOU WERE OLD ENOUGH TO PLAY IT, ONLY THEN CAN YOU MOCK IT. And even on that note... how can you mock so easily one of the true milestones in gaming history. Lets face it, the crowd of us out there that love the NEW SMB, have played the original and know how great it was just to walk to the right. The ignorance for someone to just hate on something they have never truly experienced is astounding. And should not be tolerated.

I wish I can end the tale saying I tore the shirt off the unworthy child. Instead I laughed as the little one tried to purchase GTA: Liberty Stories without a parent. The wittiest thing I heard said to the kid was "Kid, if this was Louisiana, someone would be behind you ready to shoot you."

Lesson? RESPECT THY ELDERS.
