In a recent press release, Nintendo has announced that the release of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will be delayed until 2006. Developers stated that they need the extra time to add some amazing new elements to the game that will make the game much more enjoyable than if it was released in November.
Nintendo said earlier today, "We recognize there may be some disappointed fans, however we firmly believe this additional time will result in a much more enjoyable gaming experience. GameCube fans will have a variety of Nintendo games to choose from this Christmas, including Mario Smash Football, Battalion Wars, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness."
Vice president of corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan, stated to IGN regarding the new release date, "Consequently, we're announcing a new global launch in 2006, after the conclusion of this fiscal year (March 31). We'll provide a specific date at a later point in time. While this may come as a disappointment to many eager fans, it will absolutely enrich the game and make it a multi-million seller."
With this news, we can certainly say that the Gamecube is going to have a very hard time maintaining sales this holiday season, relying on Mario sports titles and Pokemon. At this point, we can't be very sure what exactly Nintendo is doing, but come the end of the fiscal year in 2006, we'll find out for sure if it worked.
Along with the news, though, Nintendo revealed 7 new, beautiful screenshots of the game. They show Wolf Link in a snowy landscape, more of the forest temple, and Link in a busy town area. You can check them out in the image section. Perhaps Nintendo thought the news wouldn't come as much of a dissappointment if they gave us these screenshots.
