The rumor was true! It was just recently confirmed in an issue of Famitsu Japanese gaming magazine that a Resident Evil title for the Nintendo DS is currently in the works.
The game is to be called Resident Evil: Deadly Silence. The subtitle probably refers to the name of the system it's on (Deadly Silence = D.S.). The game is supposedly a remake of the original Resident Evil, as the rumor suggested a while ago, with Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine as playable characters.
The touch screen is being creatively implemented into the gameplay of RE: DS. For one, your styles becomes a combat knife as you use it to hack away at enemies. The screenshots also show that various puzzles in the game will require the use of the touch screen to solve.
You may be thinking that the graphics don't look very good, but for the Nintendo DS, a handheld, they're pretty darn nice. You can take a look at the screenshots below, as well as other game information.
