Resident Evil: Deadly Silence was recently announced as a DS remake of the original game in the series. It's a complete remake, however, and it's made to utilize the handheld's unique features. More details were recently revealed on this game.
For one, a multiplayer function has been confirmed for the title. What we know is that up to 4 players can play simultaneously, but what we don't know is whether it's in a co-op mode, or a sort of deathmatch mode. Capcom should give more info soon.
Another, interesting feature is the lack of a health meter. In RE: DS, the top screen's background will determine when you need to take in a few herbs or not. The background will range from green to yellow to red, meaning healthy to normal to risky, respectively.
The DS system's unique and innovative features will play key roles in this title. For one, the stylus will be used in solving many puzzles throughout the mansion. Other uses are for wiping blood off the screen. It's been mentioned that the microphone may be used in this game, perhaps to provide mouth-to-mouth to dying teammates.
Additionally, the stylus will be used in interactive knife fight scenes. The camera switchs from the normal third-person view to a first-person view, along you to hack away with the styl...er...knife.
On a side note, the game will feature new graphics for the Nintendo DS. The backgrounds are all pre-rendered. We have to say, they look fairly good for a handheld title, even if they don't live up to the GCN's RE4.
We'll keep you updated with any more info on the title as it breaks, so we'll try to not be deadly silent.
