Konami will bring a unique survival game to DS owners in August. Lost in Blue is basically a survival adventure game where players must hunt, fish, and cook among other things to stay alive as well as get off the island.

The story goes that you are a male teenager who drifts ashore on a mysterious island after some disaster at sea. After you look around for food and shelter, you come across a 17 year old girl who also washed up on the island. It is not known at this point exactly how you or she came to be on the island, but a good guess would be that you were on a boat that sunk or a plane that crashed. Since there is no one else apparently on the island, you and the girl team up in order to find a way off your tropical prison.

While playing Lost in Blue, Konami remarks that “this innovative RPG takes players on a journey of survival, adventure and mystery.” Players will use the touch screen to hunt, fish, craft various things, cook, and even milk goats. Apparently there are two main goals in the game, stay alive, and find a way off the island. In various screenshots of the actual game, the top screen shows an outline of the player and three different gauges. One gauge is a water droplet, one is a stomach, and the other is an arm flexing. I’m guessing these symbols represent thirst, hunger and stamina or fatigue. This is where hunting, fishing and cooking come into play since you’ll probably need to keep those gauges at 100% or risk your health. Reports from E3 say that things like cooking and other activities will play out like minigames, but in order to play them, you’ll probably have to forage around for items. For example, to build a fire you need wood. Once you forage some wood, you have to rub the sticks together on the touch screen and blow into the mic (thats some real interaction right there!) For cooking, players put the items they want into a pot and close the lid of their DS for a certain amount of time to "simmer" the food. Both of these minigames sound really fun and really interactive as well. Besides trying to stay alive, players also need to find a way off the island. Konami is saying that there is more than one way to get off the island. One screenshot shows a picture of building materials for a raft, which is the stranded persons escape plan of choice in about every stranded-on-an-island situation. The number of escape ideas isn’t known at this point.

You and your partner will also help each other out while exploring the island in what Konami is dubbing the dual phase system. In this system, once players have beaten the game they can play through it again with the girl as the main character, supposedly showing everything through a whole new perspective. This is sure to add lots of replay value to Lost in Blue. In addition to the second play through, as said above, there will be multiple ways off the island and there are also multiple endings based on the relationship between the two characters. This will really add depth and a sense of freedom if it works out nicely, which it hopefully does.

For now, that’s all the info on Konami’s survival game Lost in Blue. Check out our screenshot gallery below and keep it at NinFormer for all the latest Lost news.
