At 11AM today at the Tokyo Game Show, Satoru Iwata gave a presentation that culminated in the unveiling of the Revolution's unique controller.

The controller's glossy white design matched the Revolution shown at the event, but other colors were shown also. The main controller resembles a television remote with a few buttons and a D-Pad. What isn't clear from simple pictures is the technology inside this ambitious little device. The controller includes a "pointing device" that will allow it to act similarly to a computer mouse except you'll be pointing it towards the TV where you want it to go, not unlike a light gun.

A big part of the controller is that it will also recognise all manor of tilts made to the controller allowing for many unique game experiences. Some demos Nintendo showed to press included a fishing game in which the movement of the rod followed your movement of the controller and an air hockey game that allowed you to twist your wrist to hit the puck in different directions.

Nintendo also showed that the controller allows for attachments that can be used with your second hand. The attachment possibilites are almost endless, but the main one seemed to include an analogue stick and two triggers. In possibly the most important demo shown to press, a Metroid Prime demo, this was shown in action. The analgue stick controlled the movement of Samus while the main controller section allowed you to tilt the controller around to look in every direction. If Nintendo can get the technology working flawlessly then it will allow for impressive first person shooter controls.

The controller is completely wireless and will have rumble support built in. With any luck we'll see some actual games in action before too long to really see how this "revolutionary" controller will work in the heat of gameplay. We'll have more media and information soon.
