Speaking to G4TV at the Tokyo Games Show 2005, Iwata tells reporters that he's pushing very hard to get work done on Super Mario128, as he's hoping it to be a launch title on the Nintendo Revolution, supposedly being released in 2006.

Apparently, Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Mario series, is being nagged at by the president himself. Iwata says, "personally I am pushing very strongly on Mr. Miyamoto to make Mario one of the launch titles for the Revolution."

As many sites have said, this isn't really new to us as it's already been confirmed that Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Smash Bros. titles were already set to be released with the launch of the Revolution. However, with the lack of ANY news from this title, it's quite refreshing to hear this from Iwata. Talk of this game has been floating around since the early days of the Gamecube's development, so it's nice to see that we'll actually be playing it in the next year.

Apparently, Shiggy commented that the previously mentioned Mario Revolution titles were simply a bunch of tests, and that Mario 128 will be the real deal when the system is released.
We'll keep you updated with more news on the title as it breaks.
